Bicycling the Lewis & Clark Trail. In 1804, an expedition led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark departed Camp Wood, Illinois, on a journey to discover the source of the great Missouri River and map a path to the Pacific Ocean. Traveling by canoe, on horseback, and on foot, the Corps of Discovery completed its mission successfully, returning safely to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1806.
A perfect accompaniment to our Lewis & Clark Trail maps the book is divided into seven chapters, each matching the beginning and end points of one of Adventure Cycling's map series. Chapter 8 is dedicated to additional riding opportunities. The 3,254 mile route is divided into 40 sections for an average of 80 miles per section. By Michael McCoy.
