Dear Map Librarian; We have a very large listing of new maps this month, thanks to a busy past two months. Due to the size of the listing, I have included only the links (see below) to the map details in this e-mail.
The big highlight this month is the complete revision of the France 1:100,000 topographic map series. The Franch IGN has completely redesigned this popular series, making the roads easier to see on the maps and revising all of the sheets in the process. Click here for details. Other highlights include new digital map products for use with GPS units. These products come with Memory-Map software installed so they can be used with most GPS units without needing additional software. More locations will be forthcoming over the next few months.
We also have several atlases from Poland and Vietnam, along with WWI Belgian battlefield map, Swiss ski-touring maps, and much, much more. The links below lead to all the details; further down are the French maps, the digital maps, and a few other highlights. We have all New Arrival items in stock at this time, although we have limited stock of some items, such as the Polish and Vietnamese atlases.

Wine Maps and Map Pins
With spring and summer weather approaching, its time to pick your wines for drinking while sitting on the porch. These maps will help you locate the source regions of your favorite wines. Or send a wine region postcard to a friend, noting a particular French wine that you like. You can use map pins or map flags to mark the locations of favorite vineyards.

France 1:100,000 Topographic Maps
France TOP100 Topographic Maps. 1:100,000. France IGN. France IGN is replacing its famous 1:100,000 series with a new 1:100,000 topographic series called TOP100. This new series, which now has yellow-green covers, offers complete coverage of France in 76 sheets (up from the 74 sheet of the current series). So far 47 new series sheets have been issued, with the remaining 29 sheets to be published in March, 2010. Note that because of the increase from 74 to 76 sheets, the sheet boundaries of the new series are not the same from the current editions. Because of this, there is no direct correlation between the new sheet numbers and the old, so please check the indexes carefully before you order. I have linked both the new index (for sheets numbered 101-176) and the old index (2008, for sheets numbered 1-74). This way, if you are used to using a particular sheet, you can check to see which of the new series you will need to replace it.
Also linked below is an image comparing the same area in the new edition and in the previous edition. This way you can easily see the changes in the series - roads are emphasized, less clutter, GR routes are marked, etc.

Atlas of the Independence Underground in Poland 1944-1956 (Atlas polskiego podziemia niepodleglosciowego w latach 1944-1956). Institute of National Rememberance. January, 2007. The Atlas is a publication aimed at discovering the reach and structures of the conspiring organizations and the military activity of the Polish postwar partisans. Much of the book’s uniqueness comes from the depth of detail of the historical material, as well as abundance of information about the nation’s contemporary history.
The Atlas exposes issues, which were up until recently, completely missing from the historical consciousness of the Poles. Such subjects were purposely excluded from debate, which was a direct result of the thesis that in year 1944, it was the vast majority of Poles that supported the new power. These, who dared to resist the communist regime, the official propaganda labeled as “traitors”, “fascist, reactionary underground”, “despicable midget of the reaction (intransigent movement)”.
Except for the cartographic visualizations, the publication possesses the descriptive and iconographic parts. The chronological frame for the Atlas was marked by events crucial for the genesis and operation of the Polish postwar, independence underground movement. January of 1944 was deemed as the critical period for the shaping of conspiracy, as it marked the beginning of the Soviet offensive, which resulted in the violent entry of the Red Army into the territory of the II RP. The final date is set on the symbolical December of 1956, when due to the implications of the October revision, the underground soldiers were given the opportunity to “return from the forest exile”. For the closure of the underground’s true story, the authors presented the profiles of these men and women, who did not take on the occasion and remained in hiding until as long as the 60s, being chased down by the security apparatus. Hardcover, 574 pages, size is 10 x 13 inches.
