Driving south west from Clarens the road leads through Ficksburg (the Cherry growing capital of South Africa) to the Lesotho border's Maseru entrance.

It was in the lowveld that gold was first discovered in South Africa in a place called Pilgrim's Rest... the town has been reconstructed to appear just as it did in the early gold rush days.

The Simangiliso Wetland Park is one of the most important eco-tourism sites in the world. Lake St Lucia is a breeding ground for many species of aquatic species and is the largest estuarine system in the whole of Africa. This map also covers the KwaZulu-Natal interior... an interior steeped in history and made famous by the Zulu wars against the British. It is an area visited by countless thousands every year who want to revisit the historical battle sites.
