With the falling US dollar, many people are rethinking the traditional European vacation to France or Italy.
This month we highlight Croatia and Slovenia, along with the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as destinations with spectacular history and scenery, yet far fewer crowds and much less expensive.
These destinations are becoming more popular for US travelers, but have not yet attracted the kinds of crowds that you see in Rome in August.

East Africa Road Map, & city maps of Bujumbura, Dar Es Salaam, Kampala, Kigali, Nairobi, Zanzibar. 1:2,500,000. Map Studio, 2007. This is a detailed road map of East Africa which includes Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda. It consists of town plans of Dar Es Salaam, Nairobi, Kampala, Bujumbura, Kigali and Zanzibar Islands. It also comes with the index to street names, freeways, route numbers, town names, places of interest, accommodation, nature reserves and parks.
Belgium Cycling Maps. 1:50,000. Sportoena, Belgium. This excellent series offers complete coverage of Belgium, plus it extends across the borders to such places as Dunkerque, Epernay, Reims, Verdun, Metz, Trier, and on to Paris.
This cycling route network was deliberately built up via green, quiet and hard-surfaced roads between historical towns with full attention to picturesque villages and pleasant town centres. This way everyone can bike from hotel to hotel, from camping to camping; the perfect opportunity to organise your weekend or sort holidays. You mostly find a tourist agency in the town centre. So always cycle downtown to inform yourself about accommodation. On our website www.fietskaart.be you ‘ll find lists of “bike-friendly” accommodation. The routes were selected to meet the requirement of "hard-surfaced, quiet, and green."
The maps use color shading to show elevation. They start from green progressing to yellow, orange and red. If you want to trace out a manageable cycle route, avoid the red zones! If the colours are close together, you can expect a steep incline. If you stay within a dark orange zone, you may expect a manageable route of rolling hill tops with magnificent views. Cyclists who buy a double series of the maps and lay the maps upon each other, will get a unique survey of the valleys and the hills. At the same time, they will se that flood-areas can be avoided, if relief is taken into account at the planning stage.
In some countries or regions local networks of cycle paths have been developed and are signposted using numbering systems. Despite their mixed quality we indicate these signposts and the connotated cycle paths as secondary information for cyclists in our maps.
Tourist sites and services are located on the map using symbols. These include castles, parking lots, coffee shops, churches, historic sites, wildlife viewing areas, and many more.

This is a laminated/waterproof map of Dubai, highlighting top 30 sights and combining a street plan of the city and its outer zones with more detailed plans of the three main central districts. The main map at 1:85,000 shows the city and its outer zones, including the three "Palm" islands and the "World" island. Along the coast, the plan extends from the Palm Jebel Ali development in the east, across the Palm Jumeirah and The World project to the Palm Deira. Places of interest and selected hotels are highlighted and the light rail stops marked.
