South America Continental Map. 1:8,000,000. Collins/Bartholomew, 2005. This is a reference map of South America with basic road information and is rather simpler in appearance than earlier editions. It's main emphasis is on the general relief of the continent, depicted through relief shading and altitude tinting at intervals of 500-1000 metres. Symbols mark lakes, salt pans, glaciers, marshes, deserts, waterfalls and volcanos. Capital cities and administrative towns are distinguished by symbols and different typefaces are used to categorise towns according to population size. Provincial boundaries within countries are indicated as well as the international borders. Railways and canals are included and latitude and longitude lines are printed at 5° intervals.

New digital edition! South America Geologic Map. 1:5,500,000. CGMW, 2000. 2 sheets. Finally, a fully updated new edition of this very popular geologic map. Extensive legend in the margins. This is the second thoroughly revised edition of the first one published in 1964.
The map was coordinated by C. Schobbenhaus and was achieved thanks to the scientific, technical and financial support of the Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM) and technical contributions from all the South American geological surveys, as well as the marine geology laboratories of Brazil and Argentina.
The trilingual legend (Portuguese, Spanish, English) of the map, besides the geological and stratigraphic data, includes a scale of the tectonic phases and indications of the different degrees of metamorphism.
This document evidences the striking contrasts between the Precambrien shields of Guyana and Brazil and the long Andean mountain range bordering the ouest coastline of the continent, and the vast sedimentary basins that separate both units.
The map is the reprint carried out in France in 2005 at the scale of 1:5,500,000. The digital version of the map in ArcInfo format was released in 2003.
