A secret atlas seized by US troops from Luftwaffe chief Hermann Göring in the waning days of WWII has been reproduced and is now available.
Description:
The atlas, found when Göring was captured near Berchtesgarden at the end of WWII, contains 33 maps of Nazi-occupied Europe, each 50 x 50 cm, with 15 maps being 50 x 70 cm. The maps showed not only the raw material resources over which Germany had control, but also the country's industrial capacity. The maps indicate how the 3rd Reich planned on using those natural resources. The original atlas was photographed and printed with English titles in the US in 1946. A copy of the 1946 American edition surfaced in Hamburg earlier this year and an identical copy was found in the Library of Congress, confirming the authenticity of the Hamburg volume. The new reprinted edition was printed from the Hamburg 1946 American edition, hence has English-language sheet titles.
