The geological map has an overprint indicating highways, major roads and different faults. Way of St. James in France (Les Chemins vers Saint-Jacques de Compostelle). #922. The map shows various routes across France taken by pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela in north-west Spain, home to the tomb of the apostle St James - the greatest of all goals for thousands of pilgrims from Europe in the Middle Ages. The routes are clearly marked, with symbols and colours denoting the main routes and various alternatives, cultural monuments and landscapes which appear on the World Heritage list, etc. Towns that have a link to the Compostella theme are also marked, as are places mentioned by Aymeri Picaud in the twelfth century. Text is in easy-to-follow French, while the legend has an English translation. Size is 40 x 52".

We have two different series of guidebooks and maps for French canals and rivers. The first set, listed first below, are detailed paperback guidebooks with maps and tourist information. There is a samle of the maps shown below (click on the "sample" link). The second series is by Navicarte, a leading French commercial map publisher. Both have their strong points, so we recommend that you get whichever seems to cover your area better.
 
Recommended France Canal Map/Guidebooks. Editions du Plaisancier. These excellent map/guidebooks are softbound, either 9 x 12" or 5 x 12". Typically the atlas has a page of detailed canal map showing hazards, width, locks, etc., plus the facing page with description of the section in three or four languages. Many color and black/white pictures are also included. All atlases are trilingual English, French, German and two atlases also have Dutch.
