North America--The Geophysics of North America Data Sets on Compact Disc. Geological Society of America & National Geophysical Data Center. No date. The compact disc contains the entire data set, including all data subsets (described below), access and display software, tutorial, and User's Manual. The data set includes magnetics data, gravity anomaly data, seismicity data, crustal stress data, and thermal aspects data. Please note that not all of the data shown on the maps is included in the compact disc data set (this also applies to the data subsets listed below): gridded digital magnetic data are not available for Greenland, Mexico, and Central America. Gridded digital gravity data is not available for Mexico. The data subsets are supplied on magnetic tape at 6250 bpi in ASCII format on IBM-PC compatible, high density, 5-1/4" diskettes. Other formats are available for a small surcharge.

North America--Magnetic Data Subset, on tape. The magnetic data were developed to produce the Magnetic Anomaly Map of North America (see 66-2314). The final version was compiled by the Geological Survey of Canada. The data were uniformly gridded at a 2-kilometer spacing based on a spherical North American Transverse Mercator projection. The data set includes over 2 million grid values, covering an area from 80N to northern South America. Large amounts of marine magnetic data are also included.

North America--Gravity Anomaly Data Subset, on tape. The gravity data were developed to produce the Gravity Anomaly Map of North America (see 66-2310). The data, based on the same projection as above, were gridded at 6 kilometers and contain over 5 million grid values. The data represent Bouguer gravity anomalies on land and free-air anomalies over the oceans.

North America--Seismicity Data Subset, on tape. The seismicity data were developed to produce the Seismicity Map of North America (see 66-2312). The data base preparation required the analysis of more than one-half million earthquake epicenters from global, national, regional, and local catalogs, and other source materials. The edited database spans a time interval from 1534 to 1985.

North America--Crustal Stress Data Subset, on tape. The data were compiled for the Crustal Stress Map of North America (see 66-2335). Four main type of tectonic stress indicators are included in the crustal stress data base: earthquake focal mechanisms, wellbore elongations, in situ stress measurements, and "young" geologic data including volcanic alignments and fault slip analyses.

North America--Thermal Aspects Data Subset, on tape.Data were compiled for theThermal Aspects Map of North America(see 66-2345). Information about each site include hole location and date of temperature measurement, range of values, gradient and heat flow results per depth interval, lithologic information, and comments.
