Danube River Bicycling Maps and Guides

The Danube Cycle Way has become the most popular holiday cycling route in mainland Europe. It has magnificent scenery, fascinating places to visit throughout its length and a wide cultural diversity. It is not unusual to sit in a wayside bar and hear seven different languages being spoken at the same time but not one of them is likely to be English. There is an excellent English-language guide to the entire route, published by Cicerone (listed below), a leading European hiking and cycling guide publisher. Also recommended are the four Bikeline guides listed below. These four guides contain detailed maps of the entire route. We strongly recommend that the Cicerone guide and the appropriate Bikeline guide be used together.

The Danube Cycle Way Guide. Cicerone, UK. The first in a two-volume set, this guidebook describes cycling the first 1271km of the Danube river from its source in the Black Forest to Budapest, passing through Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. Suitable for all levels of cyclist, the route visits the great cities of Vienna and Bratislava before arriving in the Hungarian capital.

NOTE: Volume 2, covering from Budapest to the Black Sea will be coming out later this year.
