Her crew, involved in smuggling drugs, contraband, and illegal immigrants abandoned the drifting ship without regard for the passengers. The burning liner was finally pushed ashore off Ashbury Park by high winds. Virginia Shipwrecks Chart. Sealake. Did you know that there were over 1,100 shipwrecks off the Virginia coast during the period from 1874 to 1915, and this doesn't even include those in Chesapeake Bay? Add to this the rich history of this area, including the Battle of Yorktown during the Revolutionary War, the Monitor and the Merrimac , the German U-boats, and the luxury steamships that once traversed the Chesapeake, and you can see what makes this chart is so interesting.
Shipwrecks of Virginia and the Southern Chesapeake Bay has over 500 shipwrecks on it (general locations only) along with the stories of how 35 of the more interesting shipwrecks occurred. These cover the time period from the Revolutionary War (HMS Guadeloupe) up to 1979 when the USCG Cuyahoga collided with the freighter Santa Cruz II with a tragic loss of life.

Cape Hatteras and the Outer Banks. Sealake. This beautiful chart shows the locations of over three hundred shipwrecks along the desolate area known as "The Graveyard of the Atlantic." The pirate Blackbeard (Edward Teach) met his end after a bloody battle behind Ocracoke Island at a spot known today as Teach's Hole.
During the 1800's so many ships were lost along these shores that Congress established the United States Life-Saving Service to patrol the beaches and rescue crews from ships which were in trouble.
Read more about these brave men who conducted thousands of perilous rescues, often in raging storms, how over thirty of the most famous shipwrecks occurred and other interesting facts. This is all shown on this beautiful chart.

Cape Lookout to New River Inlet. Sealake. This chart shows the shipwrecks around Cape Lookout, the second of the three North Carolina Capes, and the southern portion of the Outer Banks.
Many of the wrecks here occurred during World War II when this area was known as "Torpedo Alley" due to the large number of ships sunk by German U-boats during 1942.
Recently, the Queen Anne's Revenge, the flagship of the Pirate Blackbeard was discovered off Beaufort Inlet and this ship is shown on the latest revision of this chart, which is very popular with summer visitors and scuba divers.
Also included on the chart is information about the "Big Rock", the Gulf Stream,and the treacherous shoals of Cape Lookout. Size 14" x 18".

Cape Fear and Frying Pan Shoals. Sealake. Centered around historic Wilmington, North Carolina, Cape Fear ( the southernmost North Carolina Cape) and the treacherous Frying Pan Shoals, this beautiful chart has over 150 shipwrecks on it.
In addition to the many ships that met their end on Frying Pan shoals, a large number were lost while running the Union blockade during the Civil War. Wilmington was one of the last southern ports to remain open to the blockade runners which brought badly needed supplies to the South from Bermuda and the Bahamas.
Included on the chart are interesting stories about how thirty one ships sank, covering the period from the Civil War to World War II. Find out about the tanker that was torpedoed by a U-boat and broken in two. The crew had secured the watertight doors and its stern stayed afloat. Later, the stern was towed to Baltimore where a new bow was attached and the tanker returned to service! Size 18" x 21".
