(Argentina) El Palenque Trout. Bennett-Watt, vol. 78. The Corcovado River Is one of the most extraordinary rivers in Patagonia. It's born from the waters of Lago Vintner, a huge expanse of clear, pure, cold Andean water that spans the border of Argentina and Chile. Jeff Wells' Estancia El Palenque ranch runs along both sides of the Corcovado for 10 miles or so, enclosing a wide variety of fly fishing water from riffle/pool scenarios to cascading boulder water to long slow moving willow lined pools. The lodge is newly created modern open architecture, smoothly joined to the turn of the century ranch house. Add new cabins, a fine staff and experienced guides and you have a fly fishing experience about which you'll brag for years. Fly Tying... Jim Watt's unique and very effective Pancora Crab pattern.

Argentina's Malalco Spring Creek. Bennett-Watt, vol. 60. Northern Patagonia is a very special place. There are miles and miles of freestone rivers flowing through a vast network of lakes. It has extraordinary dry fly fishing and some fast, fat and ferocious trout. However, one of the true gems is a piece of water that flows into the Quillen River on the Estancia of Mario Lussich, at Puerto Lussich. The Malalco Spring Creek has a variety of water from long, winding, slow moving water to faster pool and riffle water. All holding remarkably big fish for such a small piece of water. Here the pursuit is, of course, the most compelling reason to visit a spring creek, but add spectacular scenery, big fish and the company of one of Argentina's most charming guides, Mario Lussich, and you'll have a world class angling experience. Fly Tying... René Harrop ties the "Black Flying Ant" from his Hooked On Fly Tying video Favorite Flies.

(Argentina) Floating Argentina's Corcovado. Bennett-Watt. The Corcovado River is a large untamed piece of freestone river that flows out of Lago Vinter. The lake actually spans the border of Chile and Argentina with equal parts in both countries. The river eventually flows back into Chile, its name changes to the Palena where it ends, flowing into the Pacific. Martin O'Farrell and his crew from O'Farrell Safaris take Gwenn and David Perkins on a 3 day float trip down the Corcovado, starting at the boca of the river where it flows from Lago Vinter and ending 17 miles downstream on a large estancia (ranch). Much of the water they explored has been fished only a few times with a fly and is virtually virgin water, with they hope, large and wild rainbow trout, with a few brook trout mixed in for interest. Camping in style is the trademark of O'Farrell Safaris. Martin even brought along the lodge chef, who also happens to be his brother, Leo O'Farrell, to keep the crew very happily fed on their 3 day adventure. Instruction... World famous television producer Jim Watt demonstrates tying an "Argentine Tung Head Minnow" and the master of spinning deer hair, Chris Helm, ties an "Elk Hair Caddis" from the Hooked On Fly Tying video "Hair Trout Flies."

(Argentina) Argentina's Rio Riva Davia. Los Alerces National Park... Is one of Argentina's real gems when it comes to fly fishing. It's less than an hour from Esquel in Central Patagonia and has at least a dozen good rivers that hold good populations of wild rainbow and brown trout. Guides Martin O'Farrell and Caleb Gates... Of O'Farrell Safaris and Trevelin Lodge float David and Gwenn Perkins down the Rivadavia river, 7 miles of classic trout water that flows between Lago Rivadavia and Lago Verde, with water crystal clear, running cold and deep. The remarkable thing about the trout in Argentina, is that they are extremely strong fighters that are descendants from the McCloud river steelhead, transplanted to Argentina around the turn of the century by sailing ship. The master of spinning deer hair... Chris Helm, ties an "Elk Hair Caddis" from the Hooked On Fly Tying video Hair Trout Flies.

(Argentina) Argentina's Tecka Estancia. Tecka Estancia is a huge Argentine ranch, 37 miles long and 25 wide, that covers more than 400,000 acres of high desert in Argentina's Chubut Province, located about one and a half hours from Esquel, the nearest commercial airport. David and Gwenn Perkins begin their trip with an aerial survey by helicopter of the various water on the ranch, including 40 miles or so of the Corcovado river, some of which Gwenn and David floated with Martin O'Farrell previously. But the part of the Corcovado in which they're interested is well downstream from the float in a long section protected on each side by very steep and impassable rapids. This inaccessibility by boat makes it virtually private water and holds some very special treats for David and Gwenn. Tecka Spring Creeks... Another of the Tecka Estancia's hidden gems is the Huemul (pronounced way-mool) spring creek that meanders for 10 miles or so through the Estancia, offering more of that fabled "new water" that
is an adventure in travel and an even greater adventure in fly fishing, with small water and big fish that have never seen a fly. Plus a look at another of the ranch's spring creek, the Tecka. Small delicate and clear, with great potential. This one is explored with the help of a helicopter, which rewarded Gwenn and David with numbers, but not necessarily large fish.

(Argentina) Trevelin Lodge, Argentina. Bennett-Watt. This show was filmed in central Patagonia near Esquel, in Argentina, where Gwenn and David Perkins have the distinct honor and pleasure of being the very first guests at Martin O'Farrell's Trevelin Lodge in the town of the same name. Martin and fellow guide, Caleb Gates, take Gwenn and David to a delightful little freestone river near Trevelin, the Nantyfall. The fishing is challenging, but the rewards are well worth the time spent in their pursuit. Knots... David Perkins demonstrates a couple of new 100% knots that Orvis has developed, one for attaching fly to tippet and the other for attaching tippet to leader. The Rio Grande... This large river is a tailwater fishery that starts in Argentina, eventually crossing the Chilean border and flowing into the Pacific. Big rainbows with a few browns mixed in for color. David and Gwenn spend a day floating the first section of the Rio Grande. Jim Watt... Renowned fly fishing television producer
demonstrates tying the "Orvis Cone Head Woolly Bugger," a very effective fly in Argentina.
